Find And Photograph The Daytime Crescent Moon Contest

Well today folks this blog is not about me, no- sir- ree Bob, get it? It's all about you, the people that entered my "Find And Photograph The Daytime Crescent Moon Contest" There was some awesome entries so much so that I could not pick a first and second, so I went out to a higher power.... my wife, and some people I know to choose the winners. Unfortunately everyone that entered the contest came in first at one time or another. The winner though with the most first place picks was Jesse! Everyone liked the "Globe in a Globe concept, so Jesse wins, that's right Jesse wins 50 pairs of Hanna Montana/Miley Cyrus 3D glasses. Right now Jesse is probably beside himself, yet wondering what he is going to do with 50 pairs of 3D glasses, well Christmas is coming, stocking stuffers, plus the tale he'll have telling everyone how he got them, right?

Now the next 3 when I tally up the votes all basically came in second , so they all get a copy of "In The Shadow Of The Moon" DVD. Just send me your address and I'll get a copy out to you.

Well I've learned a lot about Photography contests, mostly that choosing the winner is highly subjective, it is an art not a science, so with all the knowledge I've gathered, my next contest, "Find And Photograph A Night Time Taurid Meteor"............not, no more contests for me, I'll leave Photography contests to the experts. The rest of the entrants in no particular order are.

JJ's entry was very cool, very artistic with the trees , the way she framed it, colors and all, very cool.

Genie caught a cool plane in hers, right place at the right time, awesome.

Roger's entry had excellent detail, very beautiful.

Again I like to thank all the entrants and the work they put into capturing what I think is a highly underrated target, the daytime Moon. Now if anyone happens to take an image of something fitting this blog, anything celestial, I will post it as readers choice photography and give it a mention, if you're so inclined, knock yourself out.

Wow, I can't believe I placed in a moon photo contest without a tele-converter lens and without any artful additions to the shot! Those other photos are FANTASTIC!

This was fun, Bob, thank you! And I don't blame you for being done with photo contests!

Okay, I have to blog about this and brag about my new dvd!!!!

Bob,

What an honor! I didn't think I would have such stiff competition. The photo through the trees was very artisitic and beautiful almost looked like it was painted. The close up was extremely beautiful. and the one with the plane was amazing.

Now I hope all those who read this blog can truely appreciate Bob's photos. Bob has truely mastered an amazing art.

I would like to thank Bob, and Hanna Montana. \m/

Jesse

I'm pretty sure these are photoshopped. Anyway amateur on deviantArt could pull these off!!!

Bob Johnson said...

Hey sciencedefeated, thanks so much for dropping by and thanks for linking me to your blog, which is very unique, I like unique.

As far as the photoshopping I don't think so, taking thousands of pictures myself, I know that cool stuff happens, for instance, the bird in my daytime crescent Moon shot, didn't photoshop that , right place at the right time, both me and the bird, lol.

Jesse's shot was taken afocally to his telescope, (camera lens to telescope eyepiece), the blue circle is his primary mirror reflecting to his secondary to his camera lens, I have tons of globe in globe shots,

JJ's just plain good composition. moving the camera around to frame the Moon, something I've done numerous times, all in all great shots.

Bob:

Very cool fotos of the crescent moon. Creative.

I know what you mean by how judging is an art. Way back in about 1975 we had a foto contest at work. We were all surprised to see how creative some folks are. Some of those images were spectacular. A few of the images were astrophotos! Since we knew all of the entrants personally, it was difficult to judge without hurting anyone's feelings.

I like the new GIF on the left column of your screen. Can you slow it down a little? I can hardly read what it says.

Bob Johnson said...

Thanks swubird, when you have like you said all great entrants then who is to judge who is best, very subjective, I got the new gif from Roger over at Idaho Photo

http://idahodailyphoto.blogspot.com/

Don't know how to slow it down, it says Happy Holiday, maybe Roger can help out with that, Roger?lol.

Bob - I get that emoticon page when I log in to your blog - is there any way I can turn it off!?

Bob Johnson said...

Hi Julie, does it come up when click on comment, or when you just come to the page? I will talk to the designers see if it can be turned off either way. I had them design it for me so people can put aliens and icons on their comments to make them look pretty, lol, but very few people are using them.\m/\m/

What a great idea, Bob, to get people involved in perusing the heavens. Your blog is lookin' fantastic.

Sorry I haven't been around much. Just now settling in after five months of not being able to blog much, update my sites, or visit my friends online!

Hope all is well by you. Bet you are already getting some snow up there in the North Country!

Bob Johnson said...

Thanks for dropping by Lynda, yes getting people to look skyward is what I try to do, open a different place for them. For sure we have had a little snow, getting colder and icier, so sad.\m/\m/

Don said...

I liked all of the moon shots. You have a great following of talented photographers. You're not so bad yourself! ;)

Bob Johnson said...

Thanks Don, that's the reason I couldn't judge by myself, all great shots, had to bring in some back up,lol.\m/\m/

Wow Bob, these are really cool entries, I liked them all. I never realized but I had couple too on my blog, lol, but I guess I got my prize. Me and Matthew were trying glasses on, the 3D moon looks so cool, and for Matthew probably the feeling of having something on the nose, lol....thanks again, I received them yesterday, just wished Matthew knew how to type while I was holding him to let you know, lol. Thanks Bob, and congrats to the winners, I am actually impressed with the entries. Anna :)

Bob Johnson said...

Hi Anna, glad you like the world in 3D and that you got the glasses.

There were some great entries, you should have entered your's, could have got you a DVD.\m/\m/

Rose DesRochers said...

What great entries. Congratulations to Jesse. :)

Peter said...

Hi! I love all the photo's. There's certainly quite a few people with a fantastic imagination out there.

So there's a higher power in your home. Same here! What would we do without them.

By the way, one of my friends Moonshadow put me onto making my images appear larger when they click on them. In the image properties she has changed "s350" for example to "s1600-h". I see that you have done it as well. It that the standard now, or can I play with that last setting?

Take Care,
Peter

there is something so magical and special about the crescent moon

Bob Johnson said...

Thanks Rose, they all did great, I'm so proud of all of them.\m/\m/

Bob Johnson said...

Hi Peter, they all did great for sure, Yes I have a higher power, keeps me in line, lol.

As far as making the image larger, it just happens for me when you click on them, but if you find out how to adjust them let me know, that would be cool.\m/\m/

Bob Johnson said...

Hi burningwindmill, I have always loved the crescent Moon, so much character and detail to be had.\m/\m/

Thank you, everyone, for commenting on the our contest entries. :D

You're the best!!!

And yup, mine was real. Bob knows the sweat that was pouring off my face trying to see through the mackeral clouds and find the day moon in the sky. I snapped the photo in the last hours of the competition when the sky finally cleared.

Hugs, JJ

Thanks Bob you are so generous. May be next time, if there will be one, lol. I saw really nice moon yesterday during the day, no camera, go figure, but I am glad that I did not forgot to pack Matthew into the car, lol. Thanks Bob again. Anna :)
